The story of slavery is not a story of suppression. It is the story of people resisting oppression, standing up to injustice, and carving out for themselves a life of their own in spite of the terrible circumstances forced upon them. Across the Atlantic World, peoples of African descent spent centuries resisting the institution of slavery and the racism that it helped to create.
In this online exhibition, curated by students on the History program at Coventry University, we will illustrate some of the ways in which peoples of African descent resisted the slavery and racism.
